Senior Systems Engineer

iRobot is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer in our Guangzhou office to work with a global team of engineers. In your role as a technical leader on a consumer robot development team, you are crucial in ensuring the product meets or exceeds customer expectations. You'll support and at times lead cross-functional teams in system and subsystem architectures, requirements generation, design execution, and product validation. You will use your skills and experience to evaluate tradeoffs and define the best technical path forward. Using the voice of the customer you will generate requirements, write theories of operation, and run trade studies. You will lead engineers using pragmatic risk management through integration, trouble shooting and test. You'll work on both hardware and software, helping to choose realistic and ambitious product goals while managing technical risk.
To Be Successful You Will Have:
You possess in-depth knowledge in at least one core area (software, mechanical, electrical) and a good understanding of the other two. You can quickly learn new technologies through self-teaching or consulting with experts. You have experience with most systems engineering methods and a good understanding of iRobot product technologies. You have a strong technical voice providing guidance through a mix of leadership, collaboration, and consensus. Your experience involves creating consumer products displaying technical leadership.
Qualifications:
Expertise in one and broad technical knowledge in several of the following topics: Embedded systems, hardware - software interactions and dependencies, interfaces, optical sensors, Wi-Fi, navigation, batteries and power electronics, and motion control.
History of leading cross functional teams with a record of meeting commitments.
Facility with many Systems Engineering tools and methods: Use case ideation, requirements development, risk analysis, trade space decision-making, root cause analysis.
Experience (5+ years) in new, high volume consumer product development.
BS in Engineering or related field. Deep knowledge in one of the core disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software) and a solid knowledge of the other two.
MS preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to learn quickly.
Ability to work proactively and independently with limited supervision.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and trades clearly and concisely to fellow engineers.
Demonstrated systems thinking.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a mastery of the English language.
Additional Qualifications and experience of the ideal Candidate:
Robotics experience
Knowledge of software architecture
Knowledge of mechatronic hardware architecture
Embedded systems experience
High volume manufacturing
